Thanks to the pandemic, Indians will consume 5% less sugar during 2020-22

That translates into 2.6 million tonnes of the primary sweetener. This loss of demand is in addition to the already declining trend of sugar consumption in the country due to the perceived health risks associated with excess consumption of the commodity.
