Government's wheat procurement may fall by half this season
The government is, however, confident of meeting the target set at last year’s level of 44.4 million tonne and does not see a small shortfall impacting domestic needs. Actual procurement may only be 25 million tonnes in the 2022-23 season and the government may have to provide more rice under the various welfare schemes, says private wheat traders and buyers.
