The deficit rainfall in Karnataka has caused crop losses in 42 lakh hectares, worth about Rs 30,433 crore, during the six-month kharif season. The Assam Bio Refinery, a joint venture between Numaligarh Refinery Ltd, Fortum, and Chempolis, plans to manufacture ethanol from bamboo starting in March. The refinery has generated interest from energy sector investors, and the company expects returns on investment to increase from value-added products.
