Alternate farming of the kind promoted by Vasudev can make a real difference in Goa, reducing farmer costs and getting them higher value for their produce. Or it can become a cynical shield for a process where small farmers are ultimately forced off their land - while alternative farming serves as a smokescreen, and then perhaps even as the peg on which to pin the blame, much as has happened in Sri Lanka.
