Untimely rains, hailstorm hit wheat crop over 5.23 lakh hectare; farmers stare at yield loss

More than 5.23 lakh hectare of wheat crop has been damaged by unseasonal rains, hailstorms and strong winds in three Indian states, leading to harvest challenges for farmers and fears of huge yield losses. The majority of wheat is grown in the states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, which have all received untimely rainfall, and assessment of crop damage in Punjab and Haryana is still ongoing.
