Centre buys 262 lakh tonne wheat so far this year from farmers at MSP; total payout at Rs 47,000 crore

The Rabi marketing season runs from April to March. However, the bulk of wheat procurement is done between April and June. Wheat is a major rabi (winter-sown) crop. Major contribution in the procurement has come from three states of Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana, with procurement of 121.27 lakh tonnes, 70.98 lakh tonnes and 63.17 lakh tonnes, respectively.
